SOAP presents: Stowaway. Featuring new work by Carrie Hott The concept of that which is hidden but remains as a 'passenger' either physically or psychologically is central to Carrie Hott's work in Stowaway. Through drawing, sculpture, and installation, the work in Stowaway expands on the idea of a fugitive traveler while focusing on specific icons and symbols of contemporary American, everyday suburban life, which are then woven with images that represent the popular idea of the American West. Through her work, Carrie Hott wonders how pop cultural narratives, transitory objects, desired expectations, or adolescent dramas can act as hidden and perhaps unwanted passengers that stay with you. Artist Reception: Saturday February 7, 2009 from 6-9 pm.Music by Eschew Gallery Hours: Monday through Thursday 11-2PM. Friday 6-9 PM, Saturday 3-7PM or by appointment. |
